What is the Black Economic Alliance?

The Black Economic Alliance (BEA) is a nonpartisan alliance of Black business leaders and allies focused on driving economic progress for the Black community through public policy, advocacy, and engagement with government and business leaders.

Why do we think this project is important?

The Black Economic Alliance is educating and mobilizing the business community to understand the landscape of state-level voter suppression legislation since the 2020 election. BEA’s membership of Black executives and leaders from the business community are committed to improving the trajectory of voting rights for the short and long term. Every business has a vested interest in creating an environment that contributes to the growth and productivity of all of their stakeholders — especially their employees. Voter suppression is bad for business, and a functioning democracy is a necessary foundation for a productive environment that is conducive to growth for any business.

How is Democracy Fund Voice supporting the Black Economic Alliance?

In 2021, Democracy Fund Voice approved a grant of $100,000 to the Black Economic Alliance.
